Serums

Serums

Serums are our secret weapon!

They have a lower molecular weight meaning they can dive deeper into the skin delivering the active ingredients to where you need them most.

Of course it’s super-important to have the basics right, without this your serum won't be able to penetrate the skin properly and will be unable to deliver the results you expect. So first let’s just go back to basics and make sure you are double cleansing, moisturising and wearing a daily SPF. All good? Then lets see which serum would be best for your skin.

Most serums have multiple benefits and you can, of course, use multiple serums if you wish. Just make sure you apply the thinnest one first and give it a few minutes before layering to give the active ingredients time to absorb.

Most people will just use one serum at a time so my advice is to focus on your top skin concern, you can always change or add more later if you wish.

So how do you know which one is right for you? Read on to learn more about what you can expect from each serum and as this is your targeted product, select your top skin concern to focus on.

Best for hydrating
When our skin is dehydrated, it’s not performing at its best. It will be slower to heal from breakouts and can look quite dull along with feeling tight and dry, plus fine lines and wrinkles will look more pronounced.

Hyaluronic Acid is your friend! It can hold up to 1000x its own weight in water and products with multiple Hyaluronic acids will allow hydration in different layers of the skin. My top pick is Circular Hydration Serum, this serum not only floods the skin with hydration but it also prevents hydration evaporation leaving your skin plump and glowing for up to 10 hours. It’s very gentle too so all skins will benefit. It’s one of our most popular products!

Best for brightening
Targeting dull, lacklustre skin and uneven skin tone brightening serums are becoming increasingly sought after. Vitamin C is an amazing brightening ingredient, especially in a serum where it is able to penetrate further into the skin than a moisturiser can. Vitamin C is also an unstable molecule so it degenerates really fast. The best form of Vitamin C within skincare is a stable form that makes it bio available, simply put the stable forms will still be active when they reach your skin.

We love the Biolumin-C Serum within the Dermalogica range which is both brightening and firming. It’s tried and tested by myself and my clients and we wouldn’t be without it!

Best for anti-ageing
Anti-ageing serums are also becoming increasingly popular, targeting the loss of elasticity that we can see as we get older along with plumping out fine lines and wrinkles. Our Phyto-nature firming serum has been proven to decrease the appearance of fine lines and double skin’s luminosity after just one application, it also reduces the depth of deeper wrinkles after 4 weeks.

Of course if you are concerned with slowing down the signs of ageing rather than reversing them, Dermalogica’s new Pro Collagen Banking Serum is the gold standard when it comes to preserving collagen. It’s in a hydrating, nourishing, yet lightweight formula and helps to promote, preserve and protect skins collagen. It visibly plumps and helps with luminosity so is great for any age.

Best for breakouts
The magic potion (as named by some of my regular clients!) A salicylic acid based serum will dive into congested pores and clear existing breakouts. Our Age bright clearing serum works with the skins natural microbiome for clearer and brighter skin.

When applying you serum, remember this is your targeted treatment so we want it directly onto the skin. Use straight after your toner if you use one and always before applying moisturiser.

As always, if you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
